Working 3 12's

As most of you know, I work night shift as an RN--that's 7p-7a 3 or 4 nights a week in the ICU. Prior to being knocked up, I used to group my days together at the beginning of one week and the end of the next so I could take advantage of 5 days off in a row...well let me tell you doing 3 in a row during your first trimester is nearly impossible. I am SO tired by like 10pm that I can hardly keep my eyes open. It doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get during the day, I'm still ALWAYS exhausted. Then of course I'm on my feet for 12 hours dealing with crazy patients that dont' sleep at night, regardless of what people tell you!

Wednesday night was my 3rd night in a row...I hadn't slept well during the day Tuesday or Wednesday after work...and we had the night from HELL. Of course that would happen on my 3rd night when I'm completely exhausted and not on my first night when I'm nice and fresh and more awake. We moved tons of patients around all shift, I got two admissions, we had a code blue (i broke all the ribs-go me), and had a patient seizing all shift. It was FREAKING insane! We're supposed to punch out by 7:30am...and I didn't punch out til after 8. My boss wasn't happy, but my work wasn't done, I had to stay and finish it up! The advantage to that was going out to breakfast with my awesome co-workers and bitching about what a bad night it was! That was SUPER FUN! Especially since we didn't have the opportunity to eat all night--and THAT didn't go over so well with the baby in my stomach that usually demands food every 2 hours!
Last night was awesome though--I got to snuggle in bed with my husband all night--I get 4 nights off in a row this week and I couldn't be happier!

Well, I need to shower, the guys from Stanek should be here around 8 to install new windows! WHOO HOO!

Sleeping

It seems like I'm just exhausted all day long and can take a 3 hour nap at the drop of a hat. BUT for some unknown reason, I wake up every night at 2am and stay awake until 3am. Of course awake means get up and pee which means turning on the bathroom light...but honestly, awake for an hour? Completely unnecessary! Well then last several nights I have woken up STARVING at 2am. Some might say, eat before you lay down so that doesn't happen--um, I did, lots of food before bed--and yet I still wake up and need a granola bar or a fruit cup or something. How annoying!

We're Pregnant!

I have started this blog so I can keep our out of state family and friends up to date in the happenings with our Little Bit.
Here's the story of our BFP!
Super Bowl Sunday (February 1st) morning, David and I were laying in bed. I had the worlds worst cramps and I told him--this is soo not our month, I feel like my period is coming any minute (Eventhough it wasn't due for a few more days). Later that evening, I was talking to my bestest Maggie and telling her that I felt like we were down and out this month. She bugged me all day long to test anyways. So finally after being bugged for HOURS on end, I gave in and took one of the internet cheapie tests I had here. I dunked it in the cup and walked back to the computer. Went back in the bathroom a minute later and there was a line clear as day!! I took the test and went SCREAMING in to the kitchen to show David. He didn't believe it at first! So feeling daring, I decided to take the digital test I had here about an hour later. It said "pregnant" before I even had my pants pulled back up!! HOLY COW! We're pregnant!

Both sets of grandparents now know and so do the great-grandparents to be. As soon as I can upload the video of my mom, dad and grandparents finding out, I will share that with you all!

Little Bit is due to arrive October 15, 2009.
First Ultrasound and OB appointment is March 23rd.
